How to Use Home Automation in Every Room

An automated home theater or kitchen makes setting up your room fast and easy.

The beauty of having a smart home is being able to command multiple actions at once by hitting one button. If you have motion sensors or voice controls, you don’t even have to lift a finger. What you don’t want is a one-size-fits-all solution. Custom is key here, and our team is skilled at making sure your home feels like your own, from the heated floors that turn on when you wake up, to the music playlist that starts as you walk in the front door. Living with smart home automation is convenient, but also fun. In this blog, we’ll give you some ideas on specific scenes you can create or program for everyday occasions.

The Kitchen

Today, when most people hear the term “smart kitchen”, they think of a refrigerator that can tell you when you’re out of milk, coffee makers that you can turn on with an app on your phone, or an oven that audibly tells you when the turkey is done. However, a “smart kitchen” is more than just a bunch of connected appliances. It’s a place where you can easily cook up a meal, serve it to family and friends, or just read the morning paper with a good cup of joe in the perfect setting. Here a couple scenes we recommend:

  • Cooking: Create a cooking scene when you’re ready to whip up the latest recipe from Bobby Flay. Hit one button and the lights turn on brightly so you can see exactly what you’re doing, the small Seura TV above the microwave turns on to the Food Network so you can follow along with a show, and the speakers turn on overhead so you can hear exactly what the master chef is saying.
  • Dining: This scene is for when all of that hard work in the kitchen pays off. Hit this button on your tablet or the keypad on the wall and the lights dim down to a more romantic setting, a relaxing music playlist comes on to a soft volume, and the motorized roller shades go down to give your dinner party some privacy.

The Home Theater

An automated home theater or media room gives you quick access to the remote and makes setting up your room fast and easy.

  • Movie Night: Hit this button and the entire room gets ready for a relaxing night in watching all your favorite films or shows. The blackout shades go down to ensure there’s no glare on the screen, the projector comes down out of the ceiling using a motorized lift, and the screen rolls down the wall. The speakers that are installed in the walls, ceilings, and floors turn on. All you have to do next is use your smart remote or tablet to pick a movie to watch.
  • Sports Center: This setting will transform your room into the ultimate sports center for watching the big game, or catching up on the news. The large screen at the front of the room goes up to reveal a video display complete with multiple TVs. All your favorite sports channels turn on so you can watch a football game, ESPN and golf at the same time. The solar shades come down so it reduces glare, but you can still have a view outside in the middle of the afternoon.
